Hanson Family
In 2001 Jim, Jeri, Jody & Jaime Hanson started J&J Hanson Herefords with a couple of 4-H calves. Today the herd of 70 spring calving cows is managed by Brandon & Jody with support from Jim & Jeri.
Offering
In 2023, in conjunction with area breeders, we started offering bulls in an annual sale called Pride of the Midwest. This sale is held the 4th Saturday of March each year at the Sleepy Eye Auction Market!
We offer open heifers & a select few bred heifers & mature cows each year via private treaty & the MN Go-pher Sale. Half of our steers are retained for local processing through our direct to customer business. The other half are sold to a local feed yard.
Breeding
We use a mix of AI & natural breeding methods to calve between Feb. 1 & April 30. Our primary source of semen is our own herd bulls with 10 straws a year from an outside source.
Health Protocol
We follow a veterinary protocol for all stages of production with records maintained digitally from birth to sale. Bulls complete a breed soundness examine (BSE) prior to being sold or leased. We give no sub-therapeutic antibiotics, and administer no hormones for either growth enhancement or any other reason.
Cattle are fed a balanced ration according to a nutritionist’s guidelines for age, weight, size, breeding, and gestation.
